Germany Territorial History

The history of the German territorial border. In front the border with the flag of the Germany at that time and behind is the coat of arms of the Germany government at that time too. Start from the upper left where the German nation still consist of lots of German kingdoms, I use the border in the year 1866 after the Austro-Prussian war. Continue on the left side there’s the German border in the era of German Empire in 1871, you can see there’s a substantial area of Alsace-Lorraine on the below left side of the German border and Eupen-Malmedy on the upper left although it’s not visible. On below left there’s the German border on the Weimar Republic Era in 1920. Germany already lost the territory of Alsace-Lorraine, Eupen-Malmedy, Holstein, Memel, Saar, Danzig and Eastern Prussia. Below right is the border situation in the Nazi era in the year 1939 just before the invasion of Poland. Austria, Czech, Saar, Memel, Sudeten with the German at that time. On the right side is Germany in the era of Cold War between West Germany and the East one. There’s already many area losses especially in the Eastern Prussia and Silesia. Finally on the upper right is the border of the present Germany.
